Itinerary

Day 1, Oct 18: Departure from the USA
Depart today on board your overnight transatlantic flight to Portugal, arriving the following day. En route, enjoy dinner and personalized entertainment.

Day 2, Oct 19: Arrive in Porto
Arrive or Meet the group in Porto, Portugal where you will check in at the hotel. Dinner and overnight in Porto. 
*Attention: The schedule on this day is subject to change depending on flight details. We may add some sightseeing or a boat trip for a panoramic view of the city.

Day 3, Oct 20: Porto visit – Vigo
Today we will enjoy a guided sightseeing tour of Porto, including the Sé, D. Luiz I Bridge, from where we will board on Porto Six Bridges River Cruise Afterwards we will get our Passports and enjoy a Porto wine-tasting at a local winery. Transfer to our hotel in Vigo to get ready to start our walk the next morning. Dinner and overnight. 

Day 4, Oct 21: Vigo – Redondela (9.5 miles)
Today we walk the distance from Vigo to Redondela. During the trip, you will have the opportunity to enjoy one of the best panoramic views of the Vigo estuary. On this day we say goodbye to Vigo and start the last stage of our Portuguese route along the coast, as once we reach the height of Redondela, our route will merge with the original Portuguese route. Transfer back to Vigo for overnight. 

Day 5, Oct 22: Redondela – Arcade (5.5 miles)
After leaving Redondela, the route soon comes to As Angustias Chapel. We enter the parish of Cesantes. On the left, to the east, is the spectacular Ria of Vigo. The islands of San Simón and San Antón emerge from the center of the ria, beneath whose waters lie the remains of the galleons of the Battle of Rande. In the background, the panoramic view is completed by Rande Bridge, a cable-stayed bridge that rises above the mussel farmers’ rafts. The route enters the parish of O Viso and continues on to Arcade (municipality of Soutomaior). Today is your last day along the coast and quite a short walking day so you can make the most of the seaside. Stop to try the famous oysters in the fishing village of Arcade. Back to your hotel in Vigo or Arcade. Dinner and overnight.

Day 6, Oct 23: Arcade – Pontevedra (7.9 miles)
Today we will leave Arcade by the famous bridge of Ponte Sampaio, a bridge in the province of Pontevedra that is witness to the epic battle against the French troops led by General Ney, during the War of Independence in June 1809. This battle meant the victory of the Galician and Spanish army over the French, with its consequent withdrawal from this territory. The road leads us to Figueirido, where we can stop to refresh ourselves and quench our thirst in its natural spring. We then resume our walk through beautiful wooded paths that will lead us to the chapel of Santa Marta. Once here, we will continue along the fluvial path of the river dos Gafos, which forms the current official route of the path, up to the surroundings of the center of Pontevedra. Pontevedra is for many people one of the most beautiful cities in Galicia. A stroll through its cobbled streets and squares will be enough to realize the special charm it hides. After Santiago de Compostela, Pontevedra is the place on this route with the largest number of heritage elements. Dinner and overnight in Pontevedra. 

Day 7, Oct 24: Pontevedra – Caldas de Reis (14.30 miles)
Today, starting in the city of Pontevedra, the Camino will take you through chestnut groves and pine and eucalyptus woods. In the village of Ponte Cabras, take a minute to admire the rectory of Santa María de Alba. At Lombo da Maceira you will spot a statue of Saint James with his walking stick, showing pilgrims the way. On your way to Caldas de Reis, you will pass the hamlet of Tivo with its lovely fountain and public washing area. You will be staying in the spa town of Caldas de Reis for the night. Dinner and overnight in Caldas de Reis. 

Day 8, Oct 25: Caldas de Reis – Padron (11.8 miles)
Another pleasant stage that can be finished in less than five hours. Today, the Camino follows mostly the axis of the N-550 road. It is a very beautiful stage overall, however the most interesting stop for today will be in Padrón. This town with over 8,000 inhabitants is the place where the famous Padrón peppers originate. Even today, these peppers are cultivated in this area in large numbers, yearly 15 tons are produced here. The church of Santiago de Padron a very important stop for pilgrims. Inside the church, under the altar, we can find the Pedrón, a granite block that was tied to the boat that carried the apostle, St James. The current church dates back to the 19th century and it was built over two Romanesque churches. Dinner and overnight in Padron.

Day 9, Oct 26: Padron – Teo (7.6 miles)
Split the long walking day above, Padrón to Santiago de Compostela, into two stages of 7.6 and 8 miles, stopping today in the village of Teo. Dinner and overnight in the Teo area.

Day 10, Oct 27: Teo – Santiago de Compostela (8 miles)
This morning we will walk the remaining 8 miles, reaching the Santiago de Compostela Cathedral and completing your 100 km walk. Upon arrival, At noon time you are invited to attend the Pilgrims’ Mass at the Cathedral. We will arrange for the group to witness the Botafumeiro during the Mass. Then you will enjoy a guided visit to the Cathedral, its museum, and a walk through Santiago. Some stops on your tour include Obradoiro Square, Fonseca Palace, Gelmirez Palace, and Franco Street.  Dinner and overnight in Santiago de Compostela. 

Day 11, Oct 28: Santiago de Compostela - Porto
This morning we will drive to Porto, We will make a stop on the way at a local winery for our final wine tasting, Free time in Porto. Dinner and overnight in Porto

Day 12, Oct 29: Return Home

Transfer to Porto airport for your return flight home.
